Think in terms of roles, rather than classes. There are a few early skills that are really good for almost anybody. The first level of Dominus gives you +4 range. That's a 50% increase on the base range of most weapons, and it even works with flamethrowers! Everyone who isn't a 100% melee build should have this.

Mechanicus game help/advice. Greetings fellow tech-priests, I am in need of your advice on how best to proceed with my playthrough of Mechanicus. I've been using speed-run tactics and keeping the necron Awakening levels down, but I haven't been getting many weapon upgrades yet. I'm currently at about 23% Awakening on my 13th or so deployment.

“A Canticle for Leibowitz” by Walter M. Miller Jr. was the inspiration for a lot of the Mechanicus. I just started it and I love it so far. I just finished this book a short while back, and have started on the Wild Horse Woman - its also very good so far, if not seemingly more based on real world Religion instead of the more fantasy ones we got in Canticle for Leibowitz.
Later on I pumped the enemy advantages to the max and the game was still easy as I kept unlocking skills and weapons, which allowed me to totally run over the Necrons.
